MEDICINES THAT CAN CAUSE PROBLEMS IF USED WITH IBD MEDICINES

In particular, your doctor will want to know if you have been on any medicine that could interact with your anti-TNF. You should stay off anti-TNF medicines if you are on one of these:

  • Humira (adalimumab)
  • Orencia® (abatacept)
  • Kineret® (anakinra)
  • Remicade® (infliximab)
  • Enbrel® (etanercept)
  • Cimzia® (certolizumab pegol)
  • Simponi® (golimumab)

Tell your doctor if you have ever used Rituxin® (rituximab), Imuran® (azathioprine), or Purinethol® (mercaptopurine, 6-MP). Under some circumstances, you can still take one of these while you are taking an Anti-TNF, but there can be more side effects.

While that seems like a lot to tell your doctor, these are important facts that will help to guide your doctor in selecting your medicines and monitoring their effect. It may be helpful to keep a list of these facts, so that you don't have to rely on your memory while you are at the doctor's office.
