SubscribeEven with an ostomy, you can do almost anything you would normally do. Contact sports like football, rugby and wrestling probably aren't the best choice, since the pouch can get pulled away. Most other sports and activities are fine and can be encouraged for their health benefits and pleasure. It often helps to empty the pouch before the activity so there are less chance of an interruption or accident.
Bathing and Swimming
Once the area has healed after surgery, you can bathe normally. You can leave the pouch on or wash with it off. Water will not hurt the stoma. If you wear a pouch, make sure it is well sealed so the water will not loosen the adhesive.
When going swimming in a pool or lake, the pouch should be worn. Waterproof tape can be applied along the edge to make sure the pouch does come loose.
Having an extra pouch and supplies with you will save you from worrying about having an accident or being embarrassed.
