JUNK FOOD AND FAST FOOD IN IBD

JUNK FOOD AND FAST FOOD IN IBD

Those tasty snacks and desserts that we often group together with sugary drinks and call junk foods are not healthy for anyone. While most people may be ok with having a little of these foods occasionally,  they may be troublesome or even harmful for Crohnies and UCees (those who have Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis). That's because some ingredients in junk foods can cause particular problems (which you can find if you follow the links).

Troublesome Ingredients for IBD:

Fast Foods May or May Not Be A Problem for IBD. Driving through or stopping at a fast food restaurant may be convenient, but it may not be a good choice for those with Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis. What you order can make a difference. If you must order from a fast food restaurant, foods like a salad or a smoothie may not aggravate your disease whereas a burger or a milkshake may.

Beware though, the biggest problem with fast food is that is can be hard to tell what ingredients are in the foods. Even the grilled chicken on your salad or the juices of the smoothie could contain ingredients that can make your IBD worse. Most restaurants and fast food places offer a nutrition list for their foods. Make sure to ask to review your food's ingredient list before purchasing. Your IBD will thank you later!
