LACTOSE INTOLERANCE VERSUS MILK ALLERGY

LACTOSE INTOLERANCE VERSUS MILK ALLERGY

With milk allergy, all of the symptoms of lactose intolerance can be present: bloating, gas, diarrhea, and cramps. The difference between lactose intolerance and a milk allergy is that in a milk allergy, you can also have vomiting or a rash. The reason is that instead of not tolerating the sugar, the milk proteins cause the allergic reaction.

In many ways, a food allergy is like having Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis. The immune system over-responds to the food and causes intestinal upset and sometimes, rashes as well. It doesn't take much, just a small sip of milk  can  cause a reaction. In lactose intolerance, you can often put a small amount of milk in your coffee or eat a little yogurt without symptoms developing.
