Yoga and similar practices, like tai chi and qi gong, can be combined with medical and / or psychological treatment to help a person with IBD (Crohnie or UCee) feel better and return to their normal daily life. Clinical research shows that yoga and exercise can help reduce stress and improve symptoms of depression.

Yoga's fluid movements promote attention to deep, calm breathing and mindfulness which are known to help someone cope with their symptoms and worry. This balance of the mind, body, and spirit is the goal that yoga instructors try to teach their students. Even the process of learning and practicing these techniques may reduce stress and improve coping. Yoga could be used in addition to mindfulness and therapy, but should not take its place if therapy has been recommended.
