BEST SOURCES OF VITAMIN C
Vitamin C is abundant in many yummy fruits and vegetables. Eating just one cup of strawberries gives us the daily recommended amount of vitamin C we need each day to keep our bodies healthy. However, if a person is sick, smokes cigarettes, or is taking steroid medications (like in IBD), they may need more vitamin C in their diet.
Excellent Sources of Vitamin C:
- Fruit (strawberries, kiwi, oranges, cantaloupe, lemons, grapefruit, mango, papaya)
- Vegetables (broccoli, peppers, cauliflower, kale, brussels sprouts, asparagus)
- Potatoes
- Ascorbic acid (used as a supplement or preservative)
- Multivitamin
- Orange Juice (when fortified, also a great source of vitamin D and calcium.
If you have at least two to three servings of anything on the above list ( 1 cup of orange juice at breakfast, a baked potato with lunch, and a kiwi as a snack), you should be able to easily meet your vitamin C needs. Consider adding a multivitamin or ascorbic acid supplement to your diet if you do smoke, take steroid medication, or are sick.
