STAYING HYDRATED CAN BE HARD (BUT SO IMPORTANT) IN IBD
Hydration is so important for your overall health and wellness. With IBD, staying hydrated can be difficult, especially if diarrhea is present.
Proper hydration helps:
- keep the blood flowing in our veins
- flush out waste (through urine and helping with bowel movements)
- regulate body temperature
Factors that cause dehydration in IBD:
- Water loss through diarrhea
- Removal of parts of the intestine (which reabsorbs water before a bowel movement)
- Reduced appetite and desire to drink fluids
Without proper hydration, those with IBD can be at risk for developing kidney stones. Learn more on how to improve your hydration in spite of IBD.
